Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a virus which causes inflammation of the liver. Infection with the hepatitis A virus can cause an unpleasant illness but most people fully recover. Some people have no symptoms at all.

Hepatitis A can be sexually transmitted, and a vaccine is available to those in certain risk groups. Please get in touch with a SHD service for more advice.

For more information on Hepatitis A, please visit the Patient Info website.

Hepatitis A should not be confused with Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, which are caused by different viruses and are more serious diseases.
