Psychosexual Medicine

We provide a caring and confidential service for adults living in Dorset who are experiencing sexual problems.  These clinics are provided by clinicians who have had specialist training in Psychosexual Medicine. They are members of the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine.

Psychosexual Medicine has been found to be very effective at helping a wide range of sexual problems including:

  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence);
  • Premature or delayed ejaculation;
  • Loss of interest in sex;
  • Difficulties with arousal or orgasm;
  • Painful intercourse;
  • Difficulties with vaginal penetration.

Referrals to the Psychosexual Medicine service need to be made through a healthcare professional. We aim to see people as soon as possible, however at times the waiting time may be up to 6-9 months.

Please note this is not couple therapy and people are usually seen as individuals.

To find when and where we offer psychosexual medicine, you can select it from our Find a service tool.

Private psychosexual therapy is also available through the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine. You can find a list of private providers here.

Please note Sexual Health Dorset will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2024 and 1 January 2025.

If you have an urgent enquiry when we are closed, please call NHS 111 or attend your local Emergency Department.
