Young People’s Outreach Service Offer

We have a Young People’s Outreach Team to support young people with accessing relationships and sex education support. This service is to help young people aged 13-19 years or up to 25 years with a learning disability who live or study in Dorset.

We understand that some young people may need more support after RSE sessions in school. Our Young People’s Outreach Team supports their understanding to enable them to make informed decisions about their sexual health, even if this is a decision that professionals do not agree with.

How it works:

  • Referrer to discuss outreach support with the young person, this should include what the young person would like to achieve from the support
  • Referrer completes the Sexual Health Education & Outreach Service Referral Form
  • Young person allocated an advisor
  • Advisor to contact referrer and then young person, usually within three weeks
  • Assessment agreed of young person's needs and goals
  • Support provided

1:1 support:

The Young People’s Outreach Team offers 1-1 support for individuals who require support regarding sexual health issues and risky behaviour. Working within the multi-disciplinary team our Sexual Health Advisors can offer brief behaviour change interventions.

The support available includes:

  • Accessing contraception and STI clinics
  • Developing understanding of sexual consent and healthy relationships
  • Encouraging them to think about their rights and responsibilities, wishes and expectations within a relationship
  • Understanding of how to minimise risk associated with sexual relationships including contraception, STIs, coercion and control
  • Reduction of problematic use of pornography
