The Targeted Sexual Health Outreach Service is for vulnerable young people to provide information and support around their sexual health. This Service is across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset to provide a comprehensive and holistic risk assessment, provide access to a choice of contraception including Long Acting Reversible Contraception and Sexually Transmitted Infection testing and if required, provide brief interventions to reduce risky behaviour and unplanned pregnancy through either 1-1 intervention or targeted group work.
The Service is part of Dorset Healthcare and works in partnership with other agencies to support young people who are involved in risky sexual behaviour. People can be referred into the Service for particular needs that relate to sexual health and they will be assessed for the most appropriate intervention available for that need.
They are closely linked with the Contraception and Sexual Health Service and can liaise with the clinical team to fast-track vulnerable people into the mainstream services to help prevent unplanned pregnancy.
The team also provide the Sex and Relationships Programme across Dorset for schools in partnership with the Dorset School Nursing Team. This includes targeted sessions for schools identified as requiring extra support with particular needs.
All Outreach events are coordinated through the team. They provide Health Promotion and STI screening events for those identified as potentially at risk. This includes promotion of all Sexual Health Services and opportunistic screening for Chlamydia as part of the National Screening Programme for 15-24 year olds.
